Description
This barn, located approximately 36 yards west-south-west of Fairbourne Court, dates from the 15th or early 16th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is weatherboarded and set on a stone plinth, topped with a half-hipped corrugated iron roof. There are central 19th-century corrugated iron canopies at both the front and rear.
Inside, the barn consists of four bays with aisles on both sides and at the north end. There is a mortice for a central post beneath the tie-beam at the north end. The arcade posts rest on wooden cills that sit on stone plinths, featuring gunstock jowls and curved braces connecting to the tie-beams and arcade plates. Two curved passing shores remain in the east aisle. The ties in the west aisle have been replaced and include curved struts extending from the ends of the ties to the tops of the arcade posts. The plain crown-posts are each braced only to the collar purlin, and the collars are lapped. The north end wall was rebuilt in the 18th century, while the south end bay was rebuilt in the 19th century.
