Description

A barn dating to the first half of the 18th century, with alterations in the 19th century and later, stands approximately 50 yards west of Becket's Barn Farmhouse. The barn is timber framed and has weatherboard cladding, resting on a brick plinth, with a hipped roof covered in plain tiles. A later canopy is situated off-centre to the right. Inside, the barn has eight bays, with aisles at the front and rear, and a midstrey (a central division) in the fourth bay from the right. The posts feature long, sharp jowls. Straight braces connect the aisle ties to the arcade plates, while arch braces support the tie-beams and arcade plates. The roof is a clasped purlin design, incorporating non-reducing principal rafters and no queen-struts. The barn contains at least two internal partitions. A face-halved scarf joint is visible in the arcade plate.
