Description
This former barn, located about 30 meters north-north-west of Chainhurst Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and was converted into a house in the 1980s. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a brick plinth, with a plain tile roof. The structure features five timber-framed bays set at an angle to the road and has two storeys. The roof is half-hipped at the left (south-west) gable end and hipped on the right. The building has an irregular arrangement of five casement windows, which includes four two-light windows and one single-light window. There is a slight recess with vertical boarding on the second timber-framed bay from the left, which is said to be the former position of the barn doors. A stable door is located on the left gable end. Inside, the barn retains exposed framing and straight tension braces, with wall-plates and gable-end tie-beams aligned in the same plane, and features a queen-strut roof. The barn is included for its group value.
