Description
Marine Crescent, consisting of numbers 1 to 14, was likely built around 1870. It is a stuccoed building of four storeys, with a basement and attics. The roof is a mansard style covered in slate, featuring two curved dormers on each property, except for number 1, which has three. A bracketed eaves cornice runs along the top. Each property originally had two windows. The third floor features sash windows with vertical glazing, while the other floors have single sash windows combined with a three-light bay window that extends through all floors. Balustrades are located above the third floor. Cast iron balconies and tent-shaped canopies remain on numbers 1 to 8. Simple doorcases include pilasters and fanlights. Number 1 boasts a Tuscan portico and a doorcase with a rectangular fanlight. Number 14 has a later glass porch and portico. Stone steps with stone balustrades and cylindrical piers lead from the street to the building. Numbers 1 to 14 Marine Crescent are considered to form a cohesive group.
