Description
Number 27 is an early 19th-century terraced house, restored in 1985. It is stucco-faced with a roof hidden by a blocking course. The house is five storeys high and has a basement. It has a two-window front. Steps lead to a flat-arched entrance with decorative glazing bars in the overlight, flanked by panelled jambs. The entrance is framed by Tuscan pilasters supporting entablature blocks and a pediment incorporating raking dentil cornices with finely detailed mouldings. To the right of the entrance is a full-height segmental bay with tripartite flat-arched windows. The window sashes are of original design, with 3x6 centre and 2x4 sidelights to the basement floor, 6x6 centre and 4x4 sidelights to the ground, second, third and fourth floors, and 9x9 centre and 6x6 sidelights to the first floor. A first-floor balcony features cast-iron railings. To the left of the bay and above the entrance door, there is a flat-arched window with a projecting sill on each floor, with 9x9 sashes to the first floor and 6x6 sashes to the second through fourth floors. The top storey and its windows are shorter than the rest of the building, suggesting an attic. The unit is topped by an entablature, and there are stacks to the party walls. The interior was not inspected. Railings are present on the stairs and area. The building forms a group with numbers 20-31.
