Description
Number 30 and the attached railings are terraced houses built around 1835, likely designed by Amon Wilds and Charles Augustin Busby. The building is made of stucco with a slate roof and consists of three storeys and an attic over a half basement, featuring a three-window range. The front elevation is designed with a full-height and almost full-width segmental bay.
Access is gained via steps leading to a round-arched entrance that includes a fanlight and a door with coloured, leaded glass panels dating from the mid to late 19th century. The entrance is located on the left side of the bay and is sheltered by a prostyle porch supported by two fluted Doric columns, with an entablature that has a key pattern on the frieze. To the right, there are two flat-arched windows set within the ground floor, which is characterized by banded rustication. All the windows in the building are flat arched.
A first-floor balcony is adorned with cast-iron railings. The first and second floors are distinguished by giant Tuscan pilasters that support a round-arched, blind arcade consisting of three bays. The windows are grouped beneath this arcade, and a projecting cornice that stops short of the party walls adds to the architectural detail. The top fascia of the cornice also serves as a sill for the attic windows. The parapet features coping, and there are two flat-arched dormers from the late 20th century in the mansard roof. Stacks are located at the party walls.
The interior has not been inspected, but there are cast-iron railings leading to the stairs and area. Numbers 20 to 31 form a group with this building.
