Description
The Sheep House, also known as the Looker's Hut, is located at Cold Harbour Farm and dates from around 1900. It is constructed of brick and features a corrugated iron roof with a rectangular shape and a hipped roof. The building has a projecting shouldered stack on the long east side and has blocked windows on the north and south sides. There is a boarded door on the east side. This structure was used by a shepherd or "looker" during lambing season. It is noted to be one of the largest remaining huts, with approximately 12 still in existence today, out of 356 recorded in 1870, according to E. Carpenter in "Romney Marsh Yesteryears," published in 1983.
