NORTH YORKSHIRE RYEDALE SETTRINGTON B 1253 (north side, off) Farmbuildings approximately 90 metres east of Woodhouse Farmhouse

II

Lambing pens and attached shepherd's hut. Probably c1840, with possible earlier origins. Walls of limestone rubble and red brick in English garden wall bond; shepherd's hut of red brick; red brick piers and buttresses; pantile roof. L-shaped range of open-fronted shelters with hut to end right. Hut is a single room opening into the shelters but with no door. 2- light window to front. End stack. Interior of hut: plain brick fireplace. The buildings are said to be a unique survival in this area of a rare type of experimental farmbuildings and are of considerable interest in the history of agriculture.
