Description
Townsend Farmhouse and Donkey Wheel House is a house dating from the early 18th century, which was refaced in the mid-19th century. The building is rendered and has a plain tiled roof. It stands two storeys high on a plinth, featuring a rusticated ground floor, a moulded plat band, and a dentillated cornice with a parapet above the hipped roof, which has a stack at the rear left.
The façade includes two canted two-storey bays with a central sash window, three sashes to the right on the first floor, and a central glazed double door between the bays, topped with a rectangular fanlight and a cornice supported by brackets on a raised entablature. To the right, there is a single-storey wing that carries the rustication and plat band across, featuring a sash window and a six-panelled door.
The rear wings date from the 20th century and around 1700. The end section of the building originally housed a donkey treadwheel, which included a horizontal shaft.
