Description

The garden wall and gate, located about 5 metres north of Chilton House, date from the late 17th century. The wall is constructed of red brick and stands approximately 6 feet tall, extending for 5 yards. To the left, there is a 7-foot high brick pier, and to the right, the wall connects to an adjacent building. The central feature is a single leaf wrought iron gate set between two brick piers. The gate includes 5 bar side panels and a central scrolled frieze that separates two identical panels, each featuring slightly damaged compositions of baskets of fruit. Above the gate, there is a scrolled and bifurcated overthrow.
