Description

This is a garden wall and gate situated to the northwest of Guyzance Hall. The wall largely dates to the early 20th century, while the gate is from the 18th century. The wall is constructed of squared, tooled stone with cut stone dressings, although the northern section is built of rubble. It is topped with gabled coping and runs north from the northwest corner of the Hall. A chamfered four-centred carriage arch is set into the wall; this feature was reused from a demolished servants’ wing. Beyond the arch, the wall turns west to a gateway, which leads up eight steps. The gateway features a two-leaf wrought iron gate with twist tops to the standards, and decorative vines with three-dimensional leaves and fruit rising from the bottom rail. The wall then returns north to the northwest corner of the garden. A brick wall on the north side of the garden is not considered to be of special architectural or historic interest.
