Description
This listing describes a group of three headstones located about 12 metres northwest of the Church of St Mary. The first headstone is for Richard Mockett, who died in 1760. It stands about 3 feet high and features scrolled shoulders with two winged cherub heads. The second headstone commemorates Mary Chaplin, dating from the mid-18th century. It is approximately 4 feet high and has scrolled shoulders, rocaille decoration, and two cherub heads, with an inscription that honors the faithful service of Bethia Palmer of Wickhambreux. The third headstone is for John Apsley and Ann Apsley, both of whom died in October 1760. This headstone is also about 4 feet high and is distinguished by a finely carved wreathed coat of arms.
