Description
This is a group of six headstones located about 5 to 10 metres west of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. The headstones date from the 18th century.
One of the headstones belongs to Mary Willmot and features a crudely carved double head showing a skull and crossbones and an hourglass on wings. It stands about 3 feet high. Approximately half a metre to the west is a blank stone with only the head remaining, which displays a winged hourglass on laurel branches and has a shaped head.
Another headstone is for Thomas Smith, who died in 1740. It is about 3 feet high and has a shaped head featuring a skull and crossbones along with a pick and shovel, with the inscription presented on a shield.
The headstone for Elizabeth Hammond, who died in 1758, is also about 3 feet high and has a shaped and scrolled head adorned with palm fronds.
Ann Hudson's headstone, dated 1743, is about 2 feet high and features a shaped segmental head with palm fronds and an orb.
Finally, the headstone for Valentine Stuppell, who died in 1774, stands about 3 feet high and has a rocaille head with a winged cherub.
