Description
Ripple House is an early 18th-century house located on Ripple Church Lane. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof and features two storeys, an attic, and a basement. The building has a plinth and a moulded wooden eaves cornice that adorns its hipped roof, which has stacks at both the rear left and rear right. There are three dormers, with the central one featuring a segmental pediment and triangular pediments on the outer two. The first floor has five glazing bar sash windows, while the ground floor has four, all equipped with louvred shutters. A central projecting window bay includes a door made of eight raised and fielded panels, set within a highly enriched surround that features Corinthian pilasters, an enriched frieze, and a scrolled pediment. There are basement openings to both the left and right sides of the house, and the rear wings are hipped and plainer.
The interior of Ripple House was in very poor condition before its restoration in 1976, but it contained fine panelled rooms, a half-landing plan staircase with fluted column balusters, a moulded wreathed handrail, and an enriched bracketted open string. Unfortunately, much of the original detail was lost before the restoration took place.
