Description
This is a barn located about 20 metres west of Brook Plumpton Lane, dating from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of red brick in Minster bond, which is a variant of Garden wall bond, and features a plain tiled roof. The south elevation has a plinth and a hipped two-storey midstrey with a boarded door, along with a catslide outshot to the left. There are ventilation slits along the entire elevation and the return elevations. The south elevation also includes a continuous catslide outshot, a single-storey hipped midstrey, and two boarded doors.
Inside, the barn was designed for multi-purpose use, functioning as a threshing barn with a threshing floor situated between the two midstreys. The height difference is due to the higher, laden carts entering from one side and exiting unladen and therefore lower on the other side. The eastern end of the main barn area is fitted out with three stables and has newel stairs leading to a hay loft above. The continuous outshot is arranged as cow houses, with a storage area that has a separate boarded door in the small southern outshot. The attic also serves as a hay loft and hay cutting loft, featuring a shute to the lower floors. The roof is constructed with staggered purlins and queen struts.
