Description
Broadoak Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century, with an extension added in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame that is exposed, with red brick and plaster infill, topped by a plain tiled roof. The building has a three-bay hall house plan and is one storey high with an attic, which is constructed with large panel framing and arch bracing, sitting on a ragstone plinth. The cottage has jettied return elevations, a hipped roof with gablets, a central gabled dormer added in the 20th century, and a stack located to the centre left.
On the ground floor, there are three wooden casement windows, with a diamond-set mullioned upper hall window exposed to the centre right. There is a blocked framed entrance to the screens passage located centre left, while the current entry is through a boarded door in the 20th-century rear wing. Inside, there is an embattled and fillet moulded dais beam with joists for doors leading to the parlour and stairs. There is also evidence of a cross-passage between the single bay hall, which was ceiled and had a stack added around 1600, and the service bay. The roof is supported by trussed rafters.
