Description

Woods Stores, Post Office, and Hollyhock Cottage is a house that has been subdivided and includes a later shop with a post office. This building dates from the 17th century or earlier and was extended at the front of No 8 in the early to mid 19th century. It is timber-framed, rendered, and has been extended with rendered brick. The roof is plain tiled.

At the rear, there is a two-storey timber-framed wing with stacks on the left and right, featuring one 20th-century window and a doorcase with a flat hood supported by brackets. The early to mid 19th-century extension on the right projects forward and has a hipped tiled roof with three windows. The central window is a 16-pane sash, flanked by sashes with marginal glazing. The 19th-century shopfront has a deep fascia, pilasters, and two three-light shop windows for Woods Stores, which are divided by a central half-glazed double door, along with a similar shop window for the post office to the right. The return elevations are made of red and blue brick on a ragstone base, with hipped rear wings. Inside, the ground floor features exposed floor joists and axial beams that date from the 17th century or earlier.
