Description
Burgate is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with cladding and extensions added around 1800. It features a timber frame that is clad in red brick, with tile hanging on the return elevations. The roof is plain tiled, hipped, and steps down to the left, where it transitions to a hipped roof with a gablet. There are chimney stacks at the end on the right and clustered on the left.
On the first floor, there is a wooden casement window to the left, while the ground floor has a tripartite sash window. The right-hand wing, added around 1800, has regular fenestration with two tripartite sashes on each floor, featuring gauged heads. A very fine central doorcase is located on the right-hand section, which includes reeded and fluted Doric columns, a cornice block with oval medallions, and an open pediment with guttae. The door itself has six raised and fielded panels set within a panelled surround.
