Description

A group of four headstones located 10 to 15 metres northwest of the Church of St. Mary in Brabourne. These headstones commemorate the Quested family. The first headstone is for James Quested, who died in 1719, and Martha, who died in 1725. It stands about 3 feet high and features scrolled shoulders with a winged hourglass motif. The second headstone is for the children of Stephen and Penelope Quested, dating to the 18th century, and is approximately 2 feet high, displaying a skull raised over cross-bones at the top. The third headstone is for Penelope Quested, who died in 1723, and is about 3½ feet high, adorned with groups of three skulls, with the lower two in each group inverted, arranged in scrolled ensembles. The fourth headstone is for Stephen Quested, who died in 1730, also about 3½ feet high, featuring three winged cherubs and palm fronds in a scrolled head design.
