Description
Nos 5 and 5A, located on the southeast side of The Square, is a house and a small office, formerly known as Barclays Bank and No 5. The building dates from the 17th century and features a timber frame with 18th-century cladding and 20th-century additions. The brick walls are constructed in Flemish bond with blue headers and have rubbed cambered arches. The roof is tiled and hipped on the south side.
The front elevation of No 5 is symmetrical, consisting of two storeys with two windows. The upper windows are sashes, while the lower ones are casements. There is a wooden doorcase with a pediment, frieze, eared architraves, and a four-panelled door. The forecourt is enclosed by a low brick wall topped with glazing. Inside, the framing is exposed, showing an altered roof pitch. The office, designated as No 5A, is a narrow, two-storey projecting unit on the north side, featuring a flat roof, an upper double door, and a shopfront.
