Description
Nos 38 and 38A High Street is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the 18th century and was refronted and heightened in the early 19th century, with further alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, and the roof is not visible. It has three storeys and two bays, with a rear range that is not as tall as the front. The ground floor features a 20th-century shop front with a central door and another door leading to No 38A on the left. The windows are sash style with glazing bars on the first floor and six-pane sashes above, all topped with gauged flat brick arches and projecting sills. The building has a parapet, and there is a stack at the right end with stepped tabling. The right return of the building shows the stepped, dentilled eaves of the rear range.
