Description
Lloyds Bank is a bank building located on Godalming High Street, dating from the late 19th century and altered since its construction. The structure is made of ashlar and yellow brick, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a four by three bay front range, while a larger yellow-brick range at the rear is not of special interest.
The building has a plinth and on the ground floor, there are pilasters at the jambs and defining bays, which support a corniced entablature. To the right bay, there is a panelled door with an overlight, while the other bays have mid to late 20th-century windows. On the first floor, the windows are sashes set in reveals with corniced architraves. The building is topped with a corniced eaves entablature and a balustraded parapet. The steep-sided flat roof features two gabled dormers and a lateral stack on the left side.
This site was originally home to Mellersh's Bank, which operated from the 1830s, and the current building has been in its present form since at least 1896. The building is included for its group value.
