Description

66 High Street is a former house, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, consisting of two sections that have been altered over time. The building features Bargate rubblestone, with galleting on the wing, and a brick front that is rendered and scored to resemble ashlar. It has plain tile roofs and stands two storeys tall with an attic, comprising two bays and a two-storey single-cell rear wing. There are also later 20th-century additions to the rear that are not of special interest.

The front of the building has an early 20th-century shop front, which includes a central door set within a moulded architrave, flanked by projecting shop windows that support a corniced fascia and canopy box. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars set in shallow reveals. The attic features two small dormers with two-light casements, tile-hung cheeks, and hipped roofs.

At the rear, the main range has an attic gable with a two-light wooden mullioned window that has scratch moulding. The wing features a tile-hung gable and a half-hipped roof.

Inside, there are chamfered spine beams with lambs tongue stops in the front range and cyma stops in the rear range, which shows some evidence of a wattle-and-daub infilled timber-framed structure. The roof contains queen strut trusses, staggered butt purlins, large scantling rafters, and straight wind-braces.
