Description
McIlroys is a house that has been converted into commercial premises and a dentist's surgery. It dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tile roof. It stands three storeys high with four bays, including a two-storey bay on the left side.
The front has a continuous shop front from the mid to late 20th century. The left bay on the first floor features a full-width window with margin glazing bars, flanked by pilasters with capitals that support a frieze, a dentilled cornice, and a heavily-moulded pediment. The main four-bay section to the right has sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, and 6-pane sashes above, all set in reveals with brighter red brick jambs and flat arches, along with projecting sills. There is a platband at the second floor and modillion eaves. The hipped roof has a central cross-ridge stack and stepped dentilled eaves on the returns.
Inside, there is a straight-flight stair leading from the first to the second floor, featuring a closed string, turned balusters, and a columnar top newel.
