Description
This listing describes a pair of cottages, numbered 44 and 45, located in East Stratton, Michelverver. The cottages date from the 17th and 18th centuries and feature a timber frame with plaster infill that is encased in brick and pebbledash. The roof is thatched. The buildings are 1½ storeys tall and consist of two bays. The 17th-century section, which is cottage number 44, has a door located to the left of the center, along with a 19th-century door and a gabled lattice timber porch. There are two-light casement windows on either side and in the eyebrow dormers above, which also have two-light casements. The roof is hipped and has external gable end stacks. The right stack belongs to cottage number 45, which was added in the 18th century. This cottage has a door located below the stack with a baffle entry and a similar 19th-century porch. To the right, there are two-light and three-light casements, along with two eyebrow dormers featuring two-light casements. There is also a 20th-century lean-to at the right end with a tiled roof. The roof remains hipped with a slightly higher ridge and a stack on the hip at the right end.
