Description
The Peninsular Barracks West Block, built in 1833, is a four-storey brick building featuring stone quoins, a plinth, and moulded strings at the first and third floor levels, along with a cornice and blocking course. The central feature consists of five windows on the top floor, framed by engaged Composite columns and an entablature that rises three storeys. Above this, there are panelled pilasters on the fourth floor and a pediment, all made of stone and spanning three bays. This central section is flanked by two open porticos, each three storeys high and one bay wide, adorned with Composite columns in antis and an entablature, with stone pilasters that align with the central feature. A coat of arms is displayed in the centre of the pediment. The wings of the building contain a total of 15 windows, including two projecting bays with three windows each that are topped with pediments. All windows are surrounded by stone. The building has a slate roof. The Peninsular Barracks as a whole forms a cohesive group.
