Description

ROMSEY ROAD 1. 1833 (South Side) Peninsular Barracks West Block SU 4729 SE 5/25 II GV 2. 4 storeys. Brick with stone quoins, plinth, moulded strings at 1st and 3rd floor levels, cornice and blocking course. Central feature. 5 windows (top floor only) consisting of engaged Composite columns and entablature 3 storeys high, with panelled pilasters on 4th floor and pediment, the whole of stone and 3 bays wide. This is flanked by two open porticos, also 3 storeys high, of one bay in width and faced on each front with Composite columns in antis and entablature and stone pilasters lining through with the central feature. Coat of Arms in the centre of the pediment The wings are each of 15 windows including two 3-window pedimented projecting bays. All windows have stone surrounds. Slate roof. The buildings of Peninsular Barracks form a group.
