Description

This is a barn located 15 meters west of New Down Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century or early 18th century. It features a timber-frame structure that is weatherboarded and topped with a corrugated iron roof. The barn has five bays and includes an aisle with full height double doors at the center bay, situated in porches on each side. Inside, there is a queen-post roof supported by straight windbraces, with additional braces to the aisle plate and tie, and the aisle also has a tie. One end of the barn has an inserted floor with stalls below, and the end wall has been rebuilt using flint and brick.
