Description
New Down Farmhouse is a farmhouse that underwent rebuilding in the early 18th century, although it incorporates elements from an earlier structure. It is constructed of brick and features an old plain tiled roof, with a long front range and a late 18th-century wing at the rear left, along with a 20th-century parallel range at the rest of the rear. The building is two stories high and has a seven-window range. A centrally located glazed 20th-century door is topped by a bracketed hood porch. The windows are camber headed, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, with four located to the left of the door. To the right of the door, there is a square capped-off stack on the front of the building. A brick band runs along the first floor, with irregular 19th-century casements positioned just below the boxed eaves. The roof features a pair of gabled, tile-hung dormers with 2-light casements and gable end stacks, which are external at the left end. There is also a 20th-century lean-to at the left end. Inside, at the right end, there are heavy beams and joists in the end rooms.
