Description

This milestone, located 800 meters west of Red House in Sutton Scotney, dates from around 1755. It is made of painted stone and features a V-fronted shape with a rounded top. The stone is white and has black painted lettering on its faces, indicating distances to London (60 miles) and Stockbridge (7 miles). It is situated on the route of the Stockbridge and Basingstoke Turnpike, established in 1755.
