Description
This cottage, now divided into two dwellings named Rosary and Brightwells, dates to the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of colourwashed cob and brick, with a thatched roof. The original building is from the late 17th century, with an 18th-century crosswing added to the right. The main block has three bays and a first-floor central dormer. The central door, to Rosary, is a 19th-century addition with a tiled timber gabled porch and upper glazing. Flanking this are 19th-century three-light casement windows above two eyebrow dormers, each with a large two-light casement window. Brightwells features a 20th-century glazed front door and a bow window; the older Dutch brick arch is visible behind this, and there is a 20th-century window above. The roof of the crosswing slopes down to first-floor level and has half-hipped ends. A large stack is located where the ridge of the crosswing meets the main roof, a ridge stack is above the left end of Rosary, and a hip stack is at the left end, incorporating bread ovens and swept hip thatch.
