Description

The White House is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with parts that are earlier. It is constructed of colourwashed brick and has a tiled roof. The building features three bays from the 18th century, with a straight joint to the right leading to a two-bay earlier structure that has been refronted, along with a rear wing, and it faces Stockbridge Road.

The house is two storeys tall with an attic and has five bays. The second bay from the left contains a 20th-century half-glazed door. There is a large six-pane sash window with a cambered gauged brick head. To the right, there are two smaller 19th-century sash windows with gauged brick arches. Just to the right of the joint, there is a pair of two-light casements beneath a simple timber lintel.

In the 18th-century section, there are two twelve-pane sashes on either side of a six-pane sash, which has a gauged brick arch above it. To the right, there are two regular six-pane sashes. Above, there is a two-light casement in a hipped dormer. The roof is hipped on the right side and features brick ridge stacks located near the left end and just to the right of the straight joint.

Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with a Chinese Chippendale baluster. The first floor to the right includes a crinolene room with a wide six-panelled door. The ground floor to the right has a marble fireplace. There is a moulded timber arch leading to windowless passages that run behind the main rooms to the rear wing on both floors.
