Description
The wall surrounding the farmyard at Broughton Manor Farm dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of cob with some brick repairs and originally featured thatched coping, which has been replaced with tile in some areas. The wall stands 2 to 3 meters high and runs southwest from the entrance to the farm for 50 meters along the road, then continues for 130 meters north along another road. The first section of the wall, measuring 20 meters, retains thatched coping, while the next 20 meters forms the rear wall of the cartsheds. The final 10 meters of this section has tiled coping and turns a rounded corner, continuing for another 50 meters with thatched coping, followed by a 20-meter stretch with tile coping. There is a 4-meter wide entrance that has been blocked by a brick wall. Beyond this entrance, there is a 26-meter section on a flint and brick plinth with tile coping, and a 30-meter length that was rebuilt in the 20th century, also with tile coping, which runs into the corner of the barn.
