Description
Fern Side is an 18th-century building located on the southeast side of Winchester Road. It features two parallel ranges, with a lower range situated behind. The structure is two stories tall and constructed of red brick. There is a colorwashed brick string course at the first-floor level and another one at the first-floor sill level. The eaves are plain, and the roof is a mansard style covered with old tiles.
On the first floor, there are three windows; the outer ones are designed in the Palladian style, while the central window is a single sash with a semi-circular head. The ground floor also has two Palladian windows, and there is a central six-panel door. The top two panels of the door are cut away and glazed, and it is set within a plain frame that features a doorcase with Doric pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a moulded cornice. All the windows are adorned with deep red rubbed voussoirs and keystones.
