Description

Crown House is a public house that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early period, with later alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features a Welsh slate roof with both hipped and gabled ends. There is a red brick axial stack located at the center of the roof.

The structure has a long range with entrances positioned to the left and right of the center, and there is a carriageway through the right-hand end of the building. The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with three windows on the southeast side. The first floor contains three 16-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features three late 19th to early 20th century 4-pane sash windows and two early 19th century pilastered doorcases topped with small canopies on console brackets. The large carriageway on the right has a segmental arch.

The interior of the ground floor has been altered, but the first floor retains some original joinery, including panelled doors and at least one simple chimneypiece with its iron grate. Notably, the building is shown as the Crown Inn on the circa 1870 Ordnance Survey map, and it may have originally been built as three cottages.
