Description
Nightingale House is an 18th-century building located on East Hill. It is a three-storey structure made of red brick, featuring a hipped tiled roof and a wooden cornice with modillions. The building has painted string courses above the ground and first floors and includes five windows, two of which are double sashes. The three central window bays project slightly, and the glazing bars are missing. There is a keystone above the ground and first-floor windows. The entrance has a doorcase with pilasters, a pediment, and a door with six fielded panels, where the top two panels are cut away and glazed. The rear elevation features a Venetian window. There is a mid-19th century extension made of red brick that matches the original style, complete with a hipped slate roof, modillion cornice, and three sashes. Nightingale House and its surrounding wall have group value.
