Description
The County Hotel is an 18th-century building located on the north side of High Street. It stands three storeys tall and was originally constructed of red brick, though the top floor and the parapet are now covered with tile hanging. The roof is hipped and made of slate, and there is a wooden cornice with dentils. Above the ground floor, there are seven sash windows with intact glazing bars. The ground floor shop fronts have been replaced with modern sashes. The entrance features a doorcase with engaged Tuscan columns, an enriched frieze with a reeded band and oval paterae, a modillion cornice, and a door with five richly moulded panels. The County Hotel is part of a group with Nos 10-18 (even numbers).
