Description

No. 138 Totton Tyre and Battery Company Ltd is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rendered brick and has an old plain tile roof. It is two stories high with an attic and has five bays, with an outshot on one side. The front features a central six-panel door beneath a three-light rectangular fanlight, and there are 12-pane sash windows. A raised band runs around the first floor at the road end, and there is a stepped eaves cornice. The roof has two 20th-century flat-roofed three-light dormers. The outshot includes 20th-century plate-glass windows on both the end and side. Internally, some 18th-century features remain, such as doors and some panelling. This building is significant as it was the first structure in Totton after the Redbridge Causeway on the Southampton to Totton Road.
