Description

Redbridge Bridge is a road bridge over the River Test, notable for being at the lowest crossing of tidal water. It dates from the 17th century and is constructed of stone rubble with ashlar dressings. The bridge features five semi-circular arches that rise towards the center, separated by cutwaters on the south faces. The parapet aligns with the flanking walls on each side, and the bridge lacks any particular ornamental treatment. The cutwater located east of the middle arch marks the boundary of the district with Southampton, although the bridge is only accessible from the west side. It is also designated as an Ancient Monument.
