Description
FORDINGBRIDGE SU 1414 15/3 Main block of Fordingbridge Infirmary GV II
Cottage hospital now infirmary. 1895 on tablet (completed 1897). Brick, slate roof. Symmetrical, 2 storey, 15 bay, 4th bay in from each end and centre 3 bays projecting with gable over, centre bay projects further forward with tower on top. Front has in centre projecting porch with roundheaded archway with keyblocks. 1st floor band. On 1st floor 3 tall windows, centre large. 2nd floor band as cornice of corner pilasters. Central niche over with apron under. 2nd floor has sloping swan-neck sides. 3rd floor has 3 recessed panels of moulded brickwork tablets with crest and date and 2 square windows over and corner pilasters. Pedimented gable with clockface and ornate cupola over. Bays each side have corner pilasters, bands between floors, segmental head windows with aprons, and over half a Dutch gable. Similar windows in other bays except narrow paired windows in projecting bays with pedimented gables. Stack each end, above projecting bays and each side of central projection.
