Description
This is a barn located immediately southeast of Holly Cottage, dating from around the late 17th century or early 18th century, with an extension added in the late 18th century. The barn features a weatherboarded timber frame and has a gable-ended roof that has been re-clad in corrugated iron sheets. The structure consists of three bays, with opposing cart entrances in the central bay, and was extended by one bay at the northeast end during the late 18th century.
The barn is a single storey. The northwest front has full-height plank double doors for the cart entrance, positioned to the right of the center. The cart entrance on the southeast elevation has been blocked. There is also a loading door on the northeast gable end.
Inside, the barn has jowled wall-posts with straight braces supporting slightly cambered tie-beams, which have struts leading to clasped purlins. Only the gable ends include collars. The common-rafter couples are intact and do not have a ridgepiece. The wall framing includes intermediate posts, a low rail, and straight tension-braces connecting the posts to the wall-plate. The one-bay extension at the northeast end features a queen-strut truss at the gable end, along with clasped purlins, wind-braces, and common rafters with a ridgeboard.
