Description
The Tythe Barn at Hipley Farm is an early 18th century barn. It has a timber frame, with the exterior covered in weatherboarding above a brick plinth, although one side is now clad in corrugated iron. The barn features hipped roofs covered in peg tiles. It consists of five bays, with aisles on both sides and at both ends. The main cart entrance faces south, while there is a shorter cart entrance to the north. The structure includes jowled upright posts, and the roof is supported by staggered purlins, angled queen struts, and collar beams. A ridge piece was likely added later. Some of the tie beams and tension braces are reused from the tops of the wall plates. The east and west ends also have staggered butt purlins and long diagonal tension braces that connect to the end aisle posts.
