Description

Southend Farmhouse is a 16th-century timber-framed house with crosswings, significantly altered in the 18th century and again in the late 19th century. The walls are primarily brick, constructed in a Flemish bond pattern with blue headers, and a later English bond. The roof is tiled, with slate covering the east wing, and features two large shafted stacks.

The south elevation shows a projecting wing on the east side and an outshot on the west. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has a window arrangement of 4 windows above 3. The windows are mostly sashes in exposed frames, including one deep Victorian sash, with casements in the wing. A 20th-century brick porch is present. The north elevation has projecting wings on both sides, with a window arrangement of 2 storeys, 1.2.1 windows, featuring casements. A brick porch with an arched entrance is set into the north elevation. The east elevation presents three windows over two storeys.

Inside, exposed timber framework is visible, along with massive fireplaces. One ground-floor room contains a fine 17th-century plaster ornamental ceiling.
