Description

Nos. 42, 43, and 44 on Back Lane are three cottages dating from the 17th century, with re-cladding from the 18th century and a rear addition from the mid-19th century. The walls are constructed of brickwork using Flemish and Monk bonds, featuring cambered openings on the ground floor and vertical boarding on the outshot. The roof is hipped and half-hipped, covered in thatch, with eyebrow dormers, while the rear extension has a lower slate roof. The south front elevation has one storey and an attic, with three windows featuring casements. There are two plain doorways at the front and another on the east side. The irregularly shaped outshot on the west side connects to No. 41 and has both thatch and slate roofing.
