Description
This is a barn located immediately northwest of Clappers Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, reputedly built between 1575 and 1625, with an extension added around 1800. The barn features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, topped with a clay Bridgwater tile roof that has gabled ends. The structure is designed with a three-bay layout, including opposing cart entrances leading to a central threshing bay, and an additional bay added to the west end during the 1800 extension.
On the exterior, there is a gabled midstrey to the left of the center on the north side, which has boarded double doors for the cart entrance. The south side features a cart entrance to the right of center, also with boarded double doors. Inside, the original barn showcases a three-bay frame supported by queen-post trusses with collars and clasped purlins, along with straight wind-braces and broad common-rafter couples. The wall-posts do not have jowls and are complemented by curved braces to the tie-beams, although some braces have been replaced. The wall framing includes a large mid-rail and tension-braces, but the studs are missing.
