II

Two cottages, formerly one unit. C15, early and mid C19. Painted brick, with a tile roof. Late medieval timber 4-bay frame, with alterations and outshots of the mid C19; front (north) of 2 storeys, 3 windows. Steep hipped roof, ext- ended at each end to lower eaves above the outshots, catslide at rear with 3 gabled dormers, 3 steep gablets at the front above the upper windows; shafted stack. Massive exposed framing, with painted brick infill, plinth, east outshot boarded, the west of painted brickwork. Casements, Victorian coupled lights to the 1st floor, different C20 windows to the ground-floor. ½-timbered gabled wide porch (off centre) with entrances at each side, of mid C19 Tudor style. The interior structure indicates the original form as a 2 bay hall, with a smoke bay at the west end. Manorial roll suggests construction between 1492 and 1514, by William Kerven.
