Description
No 1 Winchester Street is a 18th-century building that incorporates a 16th or 17th-century timber-framed core. Originally part of a pair of cottages, it forms a continuous low range with the northern section being the west face of No 2 London Road. The building is two storeys high and features three windows. It has a tiled roof that meets the taller hipped end of the corner block at the north side, with a catslide roof at the rear and a central chimney stack. The walls are made of brickwork with flint panels, which are now painted, and have cambered openings on the ground floor, including one blocked doorway. The windows consist of casements, with one old leaded light and a small bay window supported on brackets with a tiled roof. The entrance includes a boarded door within a solid frame and a later half-glazed door. Inside, the building retains timber framing.
