Description
Herriard Church of England Primary School is an early church school and house built in 1851, designed in a Gothic style. The building features a tall gable at the center, which is flanked by a central stepped buttress and tall windows that have stone mullions and transoms, enclosing cast-metal lights in a lozenge shape. To the east, the roof slopes down to low eaves beneath a gabled dormer, and there is a brick arched gallery that serves as the entrance to the house, which was formerly also the entrance to the school hall. This gallery ends in a diagonal stepped buttress with a setback. One window unit has a higher eaves. The west side showcases the high roof of the former T-shaped hall, which extends forward to a low eaves above a modern entrance. The west gable of the older section features a carved stone plaque set within a pointed arch, displaying a carved heraldic shield and the date 1851. Although there are modern extensions to both the house and school, the front of the building retains its original character. The roof is covered with tiles.
