Description
Purbrook First School is a church school built in the mid-19th century in a Gothic style. The main hall features a cross hall at the rear, a porch, and a bell tower, along with some later minor extensions. The building is constructed of coarse flint with stone dressings and has a tiled roof. The east elevation facing the road has a prominent gable with two windows that have plate tracery above double lights, connected by a transom. The bell tower has a pyramid roof and panelled eaves with a gablet. The porch wing includes a doorway with a pointed arch, above which is a relieving arch made of brick and yellow stone voussoirs. This architectural treatment is also applied in a simpler form elsewhere on the building.
