Description

St Michael's Cottage, formerly known as The Old Rectory, is a building that dates from around 1800, though it may be older. It has been converted into two dwellings. The exterior features stucco with a rendered plinth, a tile-hung front on the southeast side, painted brick on the northwest side, and painted unknapped flint on the service wing, which is St Michael's Cottage. The main elevation has a tiled roof behind a parapet, with coped verges and tall rendered gable end stacks on the facade. The building has a parallel range with a projecting bay to the northwest and a service wing at the rear. It is two storeys high and has two bays, featuring 9-light sash windows with raised surrounds. These flank a central porch with wooden pilasters and a segmental-headed opening, which contains a half-glazed door. On the right side, there is a curved brick bay with one window on each floor; the first floor has a 16-pane sash window, while the ground floor has a 20-pane sash window that reaches to ground level. The slightly irregular placement of the windows on the facade suggests that the building may have been refaced from an earlier structure. The interior has not been seen.
