Description
No. 5 Chapel Street is a light industrial building, now used as offices and a store. It likely dates from the 18th century and was refenestrated in the late 19th century. The exterior is rendered to resemble ashlar and features a shallow pitched slate roof with a steeper pitch on the left end bay. The facade is irregular, comprising two and three storeys with one to two bays. Most windows are many-paned, two-light sliding casements, except for some variations. The second floor has two windows set below the eaves, while the first floor has three windows placed irregularly to the left of a tall four-light shop window with sliding sashes and upper portions with glazing bars. To the left of the shop window is a half-glazed door, followed by two additional windows, a segmental-headed plank door, and another window beyond in a section of wall. The interior has not been seen, but part of the roof has likely been raised. The building may have been associated with the flour mill across the street, which was demolished in the mid-20th century. It is part of a group with Nos. 1 and 3 Chapel Street, which are adjacent to the north.
